The Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (SBCI), along with Conselho Brasileiro de Construção Sustentável (CBCS), SECOVI-SP, the Secretaria da Habitação do Estado de São Paulo - SH, the Secretaria Municipal do Verde e Meio Ambiente – SVMA, Companhia de Desenvolvimento Habitacional e Urbano do Estado de São Paulo – CDHU and Ministério das Cidades – Mcidades, will host the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) 2012 Annual General Meeting and Symposium on Resource Efficiency and Green Economy: Opportunities for Sustainable Buildings and Cities, at Sesc Pinheiros in Sao Paulo, Brazil on the 12 – 14 June.
The Symposium, organized by the UNEP's Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (UNEP-SBCI), will include speakers from around the globe presenting key topics related to the building sector and its impact on:
- Energy,
- Global resource use,
- Green economy, and
- Achieving overall sustainable development objectives.
Scheduled to precede the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) to be held in Rio de Janeiro, 20-22 June, this event will be a important platform for experts and policy makers at the local, national and international levels to present and discuss the significant opportunities for advancing sustainable development through the building sector. A key highlight of the Symposium is expected to be a policy-making panel focused on the role of cities in promoting sustainable buildings and achieving overall sustainable development objectives. The symposium will attract representatives from government ministries, NGOs, research institutions, professional associations, and individuals involved in the building and construction from both the public and private sectors.
